The Sigma Beta Club was first formed in the early 1950's by Brother Dr. Parlett L. Moore, then Phi Beta Sigma's National Director of Education formally launched a youth group originally called, The Beta Club to respond to the scarcity of positive role models for young boys. Immediately the group became an integral part of the Fraternity's educational mission. Now years later in the form of the Sigma Beta Club Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity continues to answer the call in making a difference in the lives of many of our at risk adolescents. As the youth auxiliary of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Sigma men help develop strong values, leadership skills, a love of learning, social responsibility, cultural awareness and pride among the young men of our communities. Through wholesome interaction, Brothers serve as mentors and guides to the young men as they participate in academic skills enhancement, athletic contests, social and community service projects and more.
The Sigma Beta Clubs’ four major principal’s focus on Culture, Athletics, Social and Educational needs. The Sigma Beta Club offers our membership a unique opportunity to develop values, leadership skills and social/cultural awareness in our youth during their developmental years. Sigma Beta Club programs are geared to meet the needs of its member, but at the same time provide them with a well-rounded out look that is needed to cope with today's society.
Kappa Upsilon Sigma Chapter on October 6, 2006 Answered the Call by forming their Sigma Beta Club here in Burlington County which was in response to the community's significant rise in youth violence and gang crimes. With the help of these brothers: Darryl T. Curtis, Milton Dilligard, Noel Gibson, Al Warner and Reggie Brown organized the first Southern Jersey membership with 38 young men on October 6,2016. Since that time our club members have met from 12:00pm to 2:00pm starting in September and ending in June on the first Saturday of the month at the Willingboro Public Library. Some of the initiatives and programs have included:
